Sympathy Saturday - Eliza Parker Todd

Unfortunately, I think these funeral cards were scanned at a low resolution. Still, they are still somewhat readable.

The cards from Duffs Funeral Notice collection all relate to people in my database. Eliza (Parker) Todd was my 1st cousin, 5 times removed. Her husband Robert Todd was my second cousin, 5 times removed and their children - including daughter Mary Ann Todd Lincoln were my second cousins, 4 times removed (through the Parker line.) This line is from Lexington, Kentucky and is one of the most confusing I have ever worked on. Actually working on any of my Parkers, Todds, and Bowman's is confusing but very rewarding.

Sympathy Saturday - Adeline Klein

There were Kleins in DH's family, but I don't think this particular lady was one of them. His Kleins were actually Klijewskis that didn't want their name to sound so ethnic. So right before World War II, they changed it. Probably not a good move.

Sympathy Saturday - Lucie Howard Chinn

One database that I have used over the years, is Duff's Funeral Notices, a wonderful resource for those with history in the Lexington, Kentucky area. More than the memorial card of today, these were actually "invitations" to the funeral. In this time, there were often no daily death notices in the newspapers, since most newspapers were weeklies. These funeral cards were sent out to notify friends and relatives of the funeral arrangements.

Yet another stray funeral card. The Weitenberner Funeral Home was in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Schulte was 68 years, 9 months and 6 days old when he passed.

 Today's funeral card is for Edwin J. Sauer, born September 15, 1911 and died February 26, 1979.

The funeral home was in Detroit, Michigan. I think it's possible this card came from my Aunt Margie's collection, but I can't be certain.

Sympathy Saturday-Jane Lada aka Janina Lada

This card probably was one of my husband's aunt's friends. The funeral home has/had a Hamtramck, Michigan address and the cemetery is on the east side of Detroit, probably not too far from the funeral home. This is the first time I've seen a double card with two pictures on it. The other doubles I've seen all have had an additional prayer on the back.
